The new McCarthyism? [Jul. 28th, 2006|06:44 am]
Is it me or are gay accusations the new communist accusations? If this is true, one of the saddest things is that while in the 1950's suspects included physicists, playwrights, government employees, and authors; the new targets are ex-boy band members, singers, and actors. Whether or not homosexuality is right, the plethora of accusations seems wrong. Honestly, what's next -- a rainbow list instead of the famous blacklist?

MAN. [Jul. 26th, 2006|07:29 am]
[music |Days Go By.]

You would think that between the War on Terrorism and the current state of our economy, not to mention the increasingly hot debate over abortion [Senate okayed a bill concerning such yesterday] and EVERYTHING else going on in our country and our world; he would have more important things to do. One can only assume that with that many responsibilities and issues to deal with, there are things more important than:
Reality TV. )

[Diclaimer: I am neither against nor for George W. Bush. I am only saying, as a seventeen year old high school student, that it seems like he should be taking care of other things. Perhaps I'm the only one, but I was under the impression that by accepting the presidency, he adopted the job of leading our country. The duty to do everything in his power to change things for the better. Not to meet the stars of a hit TV show. However, this is merely my opinion and you are entitled to a different one. Any thoughts?]

Sunrise Photos [Jul. 18th, 2006|03:54 am]
[music |John Mayer.]

There is nothing quite like a sunrise over a lake. That having been said, these are shots aren't half bad. You know, from a roof and taken of the sun rising between houses. It's better over a lake, but hey...what else is there to do at six in the morning? Enjoy. = )

Check it out. )

College Visits. [Jul. 12th, 2006|09:58 pm]
[music |Everything by Lifehouse.]

The Do's & Don't of College Visits

DO:
* Dress appropriately. It will make you look good and feel good.
* Come prepared. A notebook and a pen suffice for taking notes, as well as an umbrella in the event of rain.
* Ask questions if you have any. That's what the staff members/group leaders are there for.
* Participate in class discussions [should you sit in on a class].
* Be friendly toward others attending the visit - the girl sitting next to you could be your first roommate, you never know.
* Visit as many colleges as possible. The more you see, the better selection and background you will have to compare colleges that you may be interested in.
* Thank everyone. They will appreciate the gesture.

DON'T:
* Be shy. When introducing yourself to someone, shake their hand and look them in the eye.
* Slouch, roll your eyes, or look unenthused.
* Wear uncomfortable shoes. Most visits will include a campus tour.
* Worry. The college is trying to get you to ATTEND their school, not scare you off.
* Take any of these experiences as a waste. Even if you decide not to go to that particular university, things that you have absorbed by listening to alumni and students speak usually apply to every college. Also, realize that each school that you don't like only helps you to have a better idea of what you're looking for. Ultimately, this will lead you on your way to choosing the perfect college for you.

POLL: Have you gone any college visits yet? If so, where? What did you think of the experience? Is there anything else that you think should be included above?

Isaac Mizrahi [Jul. 7th, 2006|11:37 pm]
[music |SOS (Rescue Me) by Rihanna.]

Alright so, in case you don't read my lj, you're probably unaware of my complete infatuation with Isaac Mizrahi. Here's an excerpt from my journal:

Isaac Mizrahi is decidedly my favorite gay guy. Ever. I frigging love him. His show, his website, his designs; it's all so fabulous [is "fabulous" a gay enough word to describe him? He deserves nothing but the best.] I'm not kidding, go http://www.stylenetwork.com/Shows/Isaac/ and read through the HAVE A BETTER DAY tips. At least three of them will make you throw your head back and just laugh from sheer silliness. For as silly as they are though, they are extremely true for the most part. Seriously, if these don't make you smile, you're not human. Bottom line.
P.S. HE DOESN'T WEAR SOCKS EITHER, JUST LIKE ME. love.

So, because most of you don't read my lj [or didn't follow that link], I'm going to be posting each one of Isaac's tips here. They all come directly from his website so if you're going to quote them, quote him [NOT me]. Also, I do not endorse any of these, nor am I telling you to follow them. I'm just offering them as a silly addition to end your evening or beginning your morning. Enjoy!

Life's too short to be anything but happy. [Jul. 7th, 2006|03:37 am]
[music |Never Knew by The Rocket Summer]

In life we do things. Some we wish we had never done, some we wish we could replay a million times in our heads, but they all make us who we are. And in the end, those experiences shape every detail about us. If we were to reverse any of them, we wouldn't be at the exact place that we are today. So just live. Make mistakes and have wonderful times but never ever second guess who you are, where you have been, and most importantly, where it is that you are going.

Welcome! [Jul. 7th, 2006|12:47 am]
[music |One Sweet World by Dave Matthews Band]

Hello and welcome to some random contributions from my corner of the world. Why a corner? Well, my computer would be in my bedroom and my room just so happens to form one of the corners of our house.

As for the user name explanation, smorgasbord_4_u...it started out to be just _smorgasbord_, as that can be defined as a varied collection. This journal will most definitely be composed of quite a varied collection of my thoughts, opinions, advice, and news on everything under the sun. Considering that all of the smorgasbord + underscore combinations were taken, I went with smorgasbord_4_u. While I am mostly doing this because I would like to, these posts will all be for you [note the 4_u].

Therefore, I hope that you enjoy checking out my entries now and then. I will apologize in advance for any possible misspellings, incorrect grammar, run-on sentences, etc. Please feel more than welcome to comment. Also, if you would like to contact me by means of e-mail, I can be found at smorgasbord4u@gmail.com.

Posting my e-mail brings me to the next order of business: contributions. While I am starting this as a one-man-show, any and all additions are absolutely encouraged. Got a quote that you'd like to share? A story that everyone could learn from? A review of the new movie that you just saw? By all means, send away. I will try my best to post all positive contributions sent to my e-mail. However, I can't promise that I will post every single thing that you send -- it has to be something that I feel that others would be interested or impacted by [for the better].

Well, if you've gotten through this lengthy post, I assume that you're ready to check things out. Thank you so much for stopping by. Enjoy!
